I see many of you log in every day, but nobody posts. I know that is mostly my fault for not providing content for you to post to, but it shows me there is still an interest.
I have temporalstasis.com and plan on adding content to create a site really soon. As soon as that happens, I'll try to get this forum going again. I believe that having a site will help get more traffic this way, although the forum is my main concern.
I suppose we could turn this thread into something useful rather than just another "forum = dead" thread. Tell me what you think of the ideas I plan on doing with the site and maybe add some if you can think of anything.
-Classes, races, items etc that members here create and submit. -A place to to upload and save character sheets. -Game content available for download under the OGL. -Our adventures written as stories. -Campaign/adventure ideas. -Town, NPC, Item, etc random generators.
Any other ideas?

I think it's a phenomenon. New board, everyone posts, lostsa stuff to talk about. After a while, things slow down and a lot of people still log in expecting the same level of activity, but it's not there.
We need to get a campaign or two going, I think.
I need to get my character sheet done.

Here's a quick idea - how about some forum role playing (non-game)? Use your characters to start up some conversation and that might turn into a basis for an actual campaign once they're ready to go.

I like that idea. If a certain forum never closed, I would have never made this forum. To have this forum be similar to that one would be the best thing imaginable to me. One thing they did a lot of in that forum was in-character posting. What do you think about this? A board that is meant for in-character posting, but just general role playing in an open environment.

I've been doing this forum thing for a long time and I've come to learn why a forum dies. The problem is even with that knowledge, it's often hard to prevent it from happening. The problem is that the forum needs to be at the same pace as activity. If the forum tries to move faster or doesn't keep up, it fails. Our problem is that the activity when we started was much more than I anticipated and I wasn't able to keep the forum up to the speed it needed to be kept. I also had problems with graphics never being finished and me trying to focus on obtaining them rather than focusing on the content. My main concern, as the admin, needs to be content and I wasn't able to do that.

All of those ideas sound fine to me but will people come back and post if you initiate them is the real question.
We really do need to actually start a campaign. I think the fact that there is a live game going would attract the most people. It gives people the impression that we are a real serious D&D forum instead of the joke we are now.

I agree in that a game is definitely the best way to create activity in a D&D forum. That one is pretty obvious. The fact that interest seems to have died makes it hard, though. As far as getting people to come back, we won't have to do much. They already show up, they just don't post. It seems as though certain people want to believe this place can be active, they just don't have anything to say. In any case, I'm creating the site and I'll see where it goes from there. With luck and a few loyal members, this place should be active enough to attract even more traffic. If I had a graphics designer, things would be moving very quickly.

Yeah, that's basically it. A little role-playing might rekindle some interest - especially if campaigns follow.

My main concern, as the admin, needs to be content and I wasn't able to do that. I might have a couple of guys that might be interested in on-line role-playing and campaigning. I was sort of planning on getting them involved when the campaigns get kicked off, but I'll email a couple of them to see if they want to get on now. I haven't spoken to them in a while, so I'll see what I can do.

I created a thread in the emerald pint board to post your character details (saving stats for later, if need be) just histories names races class, etc. I also started an intro to the pub for posting in. We will see if it helps! ^_^
