Everyone has certain items they love their characters to have. What are the items (magical or not) you always make sure you have?

I'll go with the non-magical list.
Rope Hook & crampons Flint/steel Twine (for traps, mostly animals) Hand axe
That's my short list.
I always hate when characters are walking around with basically a Wal Mart at their disposal, so I try to keep it simple - especially when I'm DM'ing. Keep track of the weights and distance travelled.

We were a rather large party (usually six or seven people) and we were often escorting NPCs so we always had a lot of stuff.

Miscelanious item of X attribute +X
Bags of holding are nice too.
Otherwise, I take what the situation requires.

hehe well i have never really been in the position to be able to buy everything i need, being a lower level char, so i usually stick with weapons, armor, sheild, etc. rope, bag, candles/lamp, provisions, water. and thats it really. i mean unless i am given more money, but carrying around useless shit is dumb ya know? when i am in a big party tho, i make sure i get all the money.

Oh, yeah, and to maintain my personage: I play Wizards, they don't HAVE to lug stuff around, because they're not stupid and can have spells to do it.

Yilduz's wizard spells are meant for helping him in combat, playing pranks and making everyday situations easier. The last DM that ran a game with Yilduz in it loved how resourceful he was, even for little things. I'd do stuff like use unseen servant to carry something over my head in the rain, stuff like that.
